Table Time & Education

At table time when I am directing we go over the following things:

  • Colors

  • Shapes

  • Numbers (Including Subtizing)

  • Counting

  • Letters and Sounds

  • Days of the Week

  • Calendar

  • Left/Right

  • Weather

  • Feelings

  • Word Wall Words (Sight Words)

  • Name spelling

With the number I not only count but also do flash cards out of order for them to learn recognition.  As for the letters, I do them in order saying letter and sound, I have them mixed for recognition and also separated for recognition of big and little.

I have a kindergarten readiness checklist that lets me and the parents know what areas the child(ren) should be doing well in before s/he starts kindergarten.  I also keep in contact with a current kindergarten teacher who lets me know if there are any changes.  The following are examples:

Knowing the numbers 0-10

Being able to count to 30

Writing their names with capital then lowercase

When learning letters and sounds "Fundations" is being used, I have the same information to get them started so it will be familiar when they start school.

Healthy Beginnings

Healthy Beginnings is a MSDE state recommended curriculum guide that is used in the lesson planning process.  It is a resource to help nurture the tremendous potential for learning and growth that every child has… that every child is born with. Healthy Beginnings is specifically designed for caregivers of infants and toddlers from birth through age three, it gives knowledge and support around child care and child development.  The Activity Planner provides fun, developmentally appropriate activities that build young children’s skills and promote all kinds of learning.
